FAQ – Frequently asked questions
What are the exact benefits of the standard report package?
As part of the report package, we provide you with a standardized excel document, which allows you to independently prepare the necessary data for our analysis. After a final quality check of the data, we calculate your GHG emissions of the scope 3 upstream categories. We will present our results for scope 3 together with your results of scope 1 and scope 2 clearly and illustratively as a PDF document (see examples above).
We are happy to provide further assistance, more detailed analysis or even extensive calculations (scope 1, scope 2, and further scope 3 categories) upon request.
Why does the report package only cover upstream categories of scope 3?
After many years of experience with estell in highly customized projects we would now like to offer estell at a very attractive price. To do so we limit our report package to selected (main) scope 3 categories, which we set in relation to your emissions in scope 1 and 2.
Upon request we adjust the estell model to determine the greenhouse gas emissions individually for you: For example, we will estimate your GHG emissions in scope 1 and 2, if you are not yet reporting on them. We’ll also assist you with identifying other scope 3 categories.
What is the exact process for the data collection? Which company data is needed?
The basis of estell is readily available information from your financial controlling: purchasing data according to type of cost, cost unit and, if necessary, country of origin. Your financial records then need to be assigned to the defined sectors and countries of the estell model. For this purpose we provide you with an Excel template and extensive instructions.
On request, we are happy to support you in the reprocessing of your data and supplementing your data from controlling with individual model assumptions (e.g. regarding the country of origin).
Is your procedure for the CDP reporting accepted? Which other customers are already using it?
Using estell for the reporting of greenhouse gas emissions in scope 3 is a recognized method by the CDP. Many companies across different industries (automotive, industrial goods, consumer goods, food and retail sector, telecommunications) have already used estell. The application itself often goes beyond simple reporting. Otto Group, who has been our customer for many years, won the CSR award of the German Federal Government with its approach to base its sustainability strategy on quantitative facts – provided by estell.
The basis of estell is scientifically recognized and transparently comprehensible data only.
Is it possible to determine environmental key figures different from greenhouse gas emissions?
The report package described here is limited to the reporting of greenhouse gas emissions. estell, however, allows to determine all of the sustainability indicators for which there exist reliable international statistics. These include:
- Greenhouse gas emissions
- Airborne emissions and water pollution
- Water consumption
- Land use effects
- Social risks of corporate activities (i.a. child and forced labour, health & safety issues)
Is it possible to use the collected data for other applications in addition to reporting?
We understand our toolbox estell as a solid fact and data base in the context of a sustainable development strategy in order to provide clarity about the environmental and social impacts of corporate activities. estell is always used where specific sustainability information about one’s own supply chain is missing or would have to be collected in a expensive and time-consuming process.
